Time Management Series (4)
It’s a new month. With the help of the Lord, we made it into the month of August 2021. To God alone be all the glory. This also reminds us that we are five months away from the end of the year 2021. So let’s get going on achieving those milestones before the year ends.
We are rounding off our series on time management by asking ourselves some pertinent questions. The essence of it is to keep us focused, and working on our top tasks, activities, and responsibilities.
- Why am I working on this present project or why am I in school? What are my goals and objectives? What results are expected of me?
Tip- Be clear about your answers and write them down.
- What is the most important result that I am expected to achieve while in this position?
Tip- Identify your key result area and write it down as a top priority.
- What are my key competencies and how can they help me to attain my results faster?
Tip- Identify and apply your key competencies to your key result area. This would aid you to achieve results faster. Examples of competencies are stress tolerance, perseverance, independent learning, initiative, organization, problem–solving, commercial awareness, collaboration, etc
- What can I do, that if done well, will make a real difference?
Tip- Think of a niche for yourself, identify your unique selling point (USP).
- What is the most valuable use of my time right now?
Tip- This question will help you to set priorities rightly. Previously, we talked about the consequences of non-completion. Generally speaking, there are things that ‘must’ be done, some are nice to do but not mandatory, some can be delegated and there are others that must be eliminated. Review your list of activities before the start of each day and assign priority words beside each task.
- Must be done (High Priority)
- Nice to do (Medium Priority)
- Delegate (Low Priority)
- Eliminate (Not a priority or non -essential)
Answering the above questions sincerely and correctly can have an enormous impact on your lifestyle, results, and rewards.
As you start the month of August, make a decision to become excellent at time management. Keep at it until it becomes a habit.
