CYMI Host Outreaches in Oyo State, South-West, Nigeria
It was an intensive and colorful week for CYMI, South West Region as they hosted a two-day program to mark Nigeria’s 61st independence celebration.
Day One
CYMI Regional Education and Outreach Coordinator for South West, Mr. Akinboade Tosin-Gabriel accompanied by members of the initiative flagged off the event on Wednesday 29th September 2021 with a visit to Onitabo Community High School, Lanlate, Oyo State.
An inspiring mentoring session was held at the school to discuss the topic, ‘walking in your purpose’.
The session was robust with the following highlights;
- The meaning of purpose.
- The importance of discovering and walking in purpose. According to Myles Munroe, ‘when the purpose of a thing is not known, abuse is inevitable. Abuse is equal to the abnormal use of a thing. For instance, when the purpose of a towel is not known, it can be used as a rag.
- Potentials and passion are two key steps to discovering purpose
- God is a God of purpose. He doesn’t create things for anything.
This was followed by a question and answer session where students were given the opportunity to ask questions. Mentoring notebooks were shared. Students were encouraged to participate in the ongoing CYMI essay competition. A total of 50 students and 3 staff were in attendance. The school management was pleased and expressed their gratitude to the leadership of the initiative.
Day Two
Activities continued on a high note on Thursday 30th September 2021 with the team visiting Samade School, Lanlante, Oyo State.
Another gripping and compelling mentoring session was held on the topic, ’walking in your purpose’.
The session was equally robust with the following highlights;
- Life has a meaning when you discover and walk in your purpose.
- Everyone has a purpose to fulfill on earth. You can contribute effectively to your world when you have discovered your purpose and mission on earth.
It was indeed a rousing session with 63 students and 3 staff in attendance. The management of the school was pleased with the initiative and expressed their gratitude.
For CYMI, It was a great opportunity to make an impact on the lives of youths, our future leaders. As we reflect on the state of our nation today, we pray for the peace and prosperity of Nigeria. Happy Independence Day.
