Understanding Yourself
Our mentorship focus throughout this month has been on the topic, ‘Building a Godly and healthy relationship during courtship’. Understanding yourself by having a critical self-examination plays a huge factor in having a Godly and healthy relationship during courtship. Oftentimes, it’s easy to say what you’re not. It’s hard to say what you are. It takes a critical self-examination to analyze our emotions and to work on them with the help of the Holy Spirit.
Start by asking self-directed questions such as;
- What is going on in me that’s not pleasing to God?
- What attitudes do I have that stink in the nose of God?
- How do I react when offended?
- Am I jealous, bitter, or resentful?
- How many people am I offended with?
- How many people do I have un-forgiveness against?
- How many people do I hate?
- How many people am I jealous of?
By analyzing our answers, we can get rid of the excess baggage that is unhealthy for our emotional state. The Holy Spirit helps us by convicting us and purifying our hearts with the blood of Jesus Christ; Titus 2:14- Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.
A healthy emotional state is very important for a healthy and Godly relationship during courtship. Let your heart be full of righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost, else happiness won’t be found anywhere, not through anyone.
