PRUDENCE AS A LIFESTYLE
Prudence isn’t a virtue you can lay claim to its mastery because you exhibited it once (just like every other virtue). It is one that requires you to build a lifestyle of it.
And a lifestyle of prudence is one that properly manages resources in order to utilise them in the best way possible.
All across scripture, we see stories of prudence but one that clearly stands out is that of Joseph in Genesis 41. Pharaoh had two dreams in one night and upon Joseph’s interpretation, it was clear that there was going to be a season of plenty and then a season of famine. Pharaoh thought, “who better” and then he hands an entire nation’s economy to Joseph.
Let’s see a few lessons from Joseph’s experience in Egypt…
1. Life will always have seasons of “plenty” and seasons of “nothing”
2. Never eat all you have in your season of “plenty”; set aside some for the ‘rainy’ day.
3. What you do with your season of “plenty”, will consequently affect you in your season of “nothing”
4. When you manage your season of “plenty” prudently, it will seem on the outside like you never had a season of “nothing.
My father-in-law would say, “every money you have will not come by miracle, you must employ prudential financial management.”
The yuletide is upon us, please don’t splurge all your year’s earnings in one month.
Take advantage of this season and build a culture and lifestyle of prudence by keeping some aside while it ‘rains’ gifts.
Remember to make plans for the coming year.
Living intentionally is our goal.
