A LIFESTYLE OF HUMILITY
1 Peter 5:5
Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.
In simple terms, humility is agreeing with the Word of God.
Also, humility is staying within the boundaries of God’s Grace.
A humble heart is one that exalts God’s word and opinion above his and every other.
The opposite will be to stage or posture your opinion above the integrity of the Word.
Hence building a lifestyle of humility will be more than changing a walking posture but changing the posture of your heart by the Word of God.
Having said that…
It is important to state that, while a change of act may not necessarily reveal a change of heart, a true change of heart will produce a change in acts.
Whilst the roots of humility is in the heart, if present, it must bear fruits in the visible actions of your day-to-day activities.
So how do I build a lifestyle of humility?
- Eat the Word of God- This will have to do with you reading, studying, and consequently believing the Word.
- Esteem God’s Word- As you eat the Word of God, esteem it by exalting the opinion of the Word above all else.
- Pray- Prayer is one of the most potent ways to subject yourself to the will of God and by so doing esteeming His Counsel above all others.
- Find a godly community- Someone rightly said, if it stays around you too long, it will get into you. Get around those whose hearts have been touched by the power of God’s word and it is showing in their daily actions. Stay around them and allow their virtue rub into you.
- Be patient and consistent and by so doing allow the Word of God bear roots deep in your heart.
– It is my prayer for you, that you will esteem what God’s Word says about you, above all else.
