A LIFESTYLE OF DISCIPLINE
A LIFESTYLE OF DISCIPLINE
I started writing the manuscript of my book – arrival at destiny in 2018. I kept writing it in bits as I received the inspiration. I knew I needed to devote more time to the collation of the various messages and the completion of the book. Eventually, during the lock-down in 2020, I had to enforce the discipline required, the time and concentration to complete and publish it.
So many times, a lot of people have started brilliant projects but didn’t finish them. Have you ever planned your day but somehow didn’t have the capacity to follow through with your schedule? Elbert Hubbard defines self-discipline as the ability to do what you should do when you should do it, whether you feel like it or not. We need a high level of self-discipline to get things done.
Remez Sasson also defines restraint, endurance, thinking before acting, finishing what you start doing and the ability to carry out one’s decisions and plans in spite of inconvenience, hardships, or obstacles as a form of self-discipline (Brian Tracy 2010).
Discipline can act as a bridge that takes you to a place of distinction, from failure to success. It helps you to carry out instructions with precision. It brings a variation between levels of achievement from one person to another. Oftentimes, we see that some are able to attain higher levels of success than others within the same environment and time frame.
People often desire to move up the ladder of success. Others dream about their next level, talk about it but lack the push to make it happen. In physics, an object with mass will not move or change its velocity until a force is applied. Discipline is the force that paves the way for the attainment of one’s goals, thereby maximizing opportunities and potentials. Without discipline, opportunities will be wasted; talents and potentials will be buried.
People make resolutions at the beginning of the year but lack the self–discipline to achieve it or turn it into reality. Lack of self-discipline is the platform for continuous excuses, regrets, frustration, and falling short of targets. It also creates a platform for refusal to take responsibility. People who are not disciplined often wait for things to come to them. They lack the push to go to things or to make things happen. They often have the ‘world owes me’ mindset. When they don’t get what they want, they become bitter and angry at the system and at others. Lack of self-discipline is a guaranteed recipe for failure and non-attainment of goals.
We know from science that the earth moves around the sun. Most natural elements like the river, the wind, and others are constantly in motion. So as a person, it is important to revitalize your life and be on the move, to get things done at the right time. To constantly be in the spectator box is a danger to destiny. Discipline yourself to pay the price and make that move that will generate the change that you desire.
