Overcoming the Challenge of Unemployment by Acquiring Vocational / IT skills. Series One’, Day 21 – Ice Cream Making
I’m sure most of us, will probably still recall with nostalgic feelings like I do…the taste of our favourite ice cream as a child.
Ice cream perhaps use to be my favorite dessert anytime.
Still making waves amongst kids and adults today, It is an unbelievably classical desert of all times. It’s been around since 1500.
Because ice cream still remains a favorite makes it capable of solving unemployment challenges. It can be a money-spinner idea that could generate over millions in turnover in a year.
Starting an ice cream biz is actually not different from any other startup that requires adequate preparations.
What this means is that you must start by getting involved in How the biz is run.
Ask questions about the biz.
Get to know how it is run.
Talk to customers.
Learn about the legal requirements.
In Nigeria, it falls under the category of food and dairy products, the Agency known as NAFDAC must be involved in the business.
Invest time and energy to do research about it.
Make decisions about what you actually want in the business.
You may want to have your ice cream on the wheel cruising around where there is a large population of kids in peak season like after-school hours.
You may also open a shop in a densely populated commercial or market area with lots of traffic, high visibility, etc.
You may want to supply other out- let like cafes, restaurants as a producer or a wholesale distributor, etc
Your choice depends mostly on your market research.
Ice creams come in various varieties like vanilla flavor, banana, chocolate, blackberry, raspberry, strawberry, mint cream, lavender, and red velvet.
Ice cream contains sugar, fats, protein, and minerals.
It’s usually made from dairy products such as milk and cream and often can be combined with fruits and other ingredients and flavours.
Depending on choices of ice cream business, the equipment you need may include;
- Ice cream dipping cabinets,
- Ice cream merchandising case,
- Refrigerators and freezers,
- Mixers and blenders.
- Source of alternate power supply to provide energy to the refrigerators.
So without a source of constant power supply, don’t venture into this business.
In ice cream merchandising, you may also get a franchise from another producer and market it for that company.
All of it requires are good refrigerators with a constant power supply.
