Setting Priorities and Staying in your Strength Zone.
Music was one of my strong suits, it was. I think people just find it a little bit difficult to accept actors who go into music and its not just in Nigeria, it’s all over the world…………………… Actress Omotola Ekeinde speaking on why her music career never took off 16 years after she dropped her debut single, Gba’.
Lessons
Staying in your strength zone has multiple advantages. It helps you to showcase the best of your talents and gifts. People don’t engage when they perceive they are getting average or second-best quality in any area.
William Gladstone, former British prime minister said, He is a wise man who wastes no energy on pursuits for which he is not fitted, and he is wiser still who from among the things he can do well, chooses and resolutely follows the best.
Valuable Concepts in Setting Priorities and Staying in your Strength Zone
Setting priorities is deciding which things are most important to do. We don’t have enough time to do everything. We have to set priorities. It’s best to focus more on the really important things in life.
How to identify your strength zone and set priorities correctly;
Self-evaluation and personal experience: You really get a feel of how well you do something by doing it. However, experience alone is always the best teacher. The experience must be evaluated.
Personality test: identify your personality profile. This will help to showcase some of your natural inclinations. It also helps to reveal some strengths and weaknesses you aren’t aware of.
Counsel of others: Asking others to evaluate your effectiveness is not always exciting but it can give you very useful feedback. However, be sure to pick people whose only agenda is to help you.
Trial and error: Successes and failures carry very useful lessons. If a venture is marred with plenty of failures and mistakes, then it means there is a need for re-evaluation and possibly moving on to other something else. However, every failure is a learning curve for your next success.
Benefits of Staying in your strength zone
- Productivity increases
- Focus increases and distraction reduces.
- Stress is minimized.
- Energy is conserved for priority assignments
- Goals are achieved faster.
In conclusion, it’s best to stay in your strength zone but move out of your comfort zone.
