Acquiring Vital Competencies and Soft Skills for the Labour Market – Creativity and Innovation (Series 1)
Having an employee who is creative and innovative is an immense asset to any organization.
Such people have the tendency of creating new ideas deliberately, contributing to the growth and improving the worth of their organization.
What do we mean by creativity and innovation?
Creativity is when people use their imagination to create new ideas, solve problems and think of possibilities that no one else has thought of before.
The scope of creativity is limited by one’s ability to think outside the norm. The nature of creativity means that an idea or creation is unique and original. The concept, and brainchild of the creative person never exist anywhere but is a product of personal creative imagination.
Innovation on the order hand is the process of taking the creative idea and exploiting their benefit for commercial success or widespread usage.
Creativity and innovations are inseparable.
While innovation is the application of creative ideas, it is innately connected to creativity and they both work in tandem with one another.
Both are important because they’re growth factors in the world, they support development and change over time.
For instance, let’s look at the transport and communication sector,
We have seen the innovations by companies like Uber and Bolts change the faces of cab driving that initially were controlled by taxicabs. That’s innovation or the use of mobile handsets instead of the landlines. The original concept here was the Brainchild of Alexander Graham Bell but innovation added an improved value to the telecom economy.
Qualities and attributes that can produce innovations
✓Have a passion and pursue it
Discover your values and have passion for your unique selling point.
✓ Study the word of God and meditate on it
It’s proven research that meditation has been shown to have effects on our creativity Read Joshua 1:8.
It reduces fruitless brainstorming and helps to foster some top-notch ideas.
Meditation stimulates the brain, especially the part useful for problem shooting.
King Uzziah in 2 Chronicles 26 was profoundly known to be creative and innovative inventing machines that were shooting arrows and great stones like modern days missiles because He was marvelously helped by God.
✓ Be a note taker.
Have the habit of writing things down,
Strokes of ideas can come from inspiration.
