I was driven to study law after I saw my father lose his property in a land dispute in 1996. My Dad was retired, so he didn’t have a lot of resources to fight the case. He was desperate but couldn’t do anything about it.
My drive was inspired by the vision that one day, I’ll get back that property. It took 23 years but I finally got the high court judgment which ruled in my family’s favour. My Dad is now 82 years old. He struggles to remember things, so I have to keep reminding him that we finally got the victory. The six-hectare (15acre) plot of family land is back- Jordan Kinyera
Our vision is what drives us. This is basically our thoughts and ideas for the future. It has the power to motivate us to achieve more. For Jordan, his vision of recovering his family land was what inspired and motivated him into becoming a lawyer.
The ability to have a vision and to work towards it is a vital competence that most employers look out for. It is commonly asked at interviews, where do you see yourself five to ten years from now? Employers want to hire people who are forward-thinking. They want to be sure about your self-development goals and more.
