Love in Marriage 2 (Success in Marriage Series)
David Viscott said, ‘to love and be loved is to feel the sun from both sides.’ Love is a major requirement for making marriage work. It is not optional but compulsory. It is the sauce with which you eat the meal. Other things come easy when there is love. For instance, giving and forgiveness can only come from a heart of love.
Love draws its source from God because God is love. God loved us despite our sins and mistakes. He gave us multiple chances to return to him.
Love in marriage is not only for the perfect couple on vacation in Hawaii with a fat bank account. In some cases, these things may not guarantee true love or love that will stand the test of time and trials.
Even though we pray for good weather, love in marriage goes beyond superficial things and fair weather. It must be strong enough to withstand stormy weather. This is made possible by the help of God.
God explains love to us in 1 Corinthians 13: 4-7 as follows;
Love never gives up.
Love cares more for others than for self.
Love doesn’t want what it doesn’t have.
Love doesn’t strut,
Doesn’t have a swelled head,
Doesn’t force itself on others,
Isn’t always “me first,”
Doesn’t fly off the handle,
Doesn’t keep score of the sins of others,
Doesn’t revel when others grovel,
Takes pleasure in the flowering of truth,
Puts up with anything,
Trusts God always,
Always looks for the best,
Never looks back,
But keeps going to the end.
So, when you look at that young man or young woman and say, I love you, I want to spend the rest of my life with you; You are simply saying I love you just as Christ loved the church.
God has not looked back or stopped loving us despite our shortcomings.
