Goals
Growing up as a young teenager, I remember one of my cousins will often tell us about her dream of becoming a pilot. She later changed to aeronautical engineering. She will tell us fascinating stories about these professions. Though she didn’t become either of the two, she succeeded in getting most of us thinking about our dreams and goals for the future.
Goals can be defined as the desired state that people seek to obtain. Tom Hopkins defines goals as the fuel in the furnace of achievement. Brain Tracy attributes success to goals and every other thing as commentary.
Successful people are intensely goals oriented. They know what they want and they are focused and single-minded in the pursuit of it. They are consistent in driving it until they achieve it.
Your ability to set goals is an essential skill for success.
Benefits of goals
Creativity: Goals unlock your creativity and thoughts. It births ideas that push you closer to your goals.
Passion: Goals increase your energy and passion.
Direction: Without goals, you simply drift in any direction that catches your fancy at the moment.
Precision: A man or woman with goals will hit their target with precision. People without goals are easily scammed because everything looks attractive to them. They are easily distracted.
Confidence: Clear goals will boast your confidence, develop your competence and boost your morale.
Note this:
It’s never late to start setting goals. It doesn’t matter where you started from, what matters is where you are going. Goals will help to define your future. Goals need to be backed up with disciplined action to achieve results.
