The Power of Identity
At the airport, it is customary for the officer at the reception desk to ask for your ticket and means of identification. This has to be checked before you are issued a boarding pass to proceed. Your identity is to confirm who you are.
For corporate organizations, you can know their identity quickly from their brand. For instance, the MTN logo with the yellow colour stands out easily. The Nigerian flag will always stand out anywhere in the world.
As believers in Christ, we have our identity. Our identity is characterized both internally and externally. While the internal identity may not be seen, it affects our outward identity.
Our relationship with God defines our thoughts, character, and our relationship with others. If you say you have a relationship with God, it defines the things you think about, the things you do, and the things you cannot do.
The taste of a fruit is determined by its source, which is the tree. If you are planted in God, it will show in your fruits. The lies, backstabbing, envy, jealousy, and covetousness are not a part of the Father, so they won’t be a part of you.
Knowing your identity will help you define the things you can and cannot do. It will help you determine where you can and cannot go, what you say and cannot say, where you belong and where you don’t belong. It will define your personality and your entire value system.
