The Power of Initiative
The Power of Initiative
There is a story about 4 people named anybody, everybody, somebody, and nobody. There was an important job to be done and everybody was sure that somebody would do it. Anybody could have done it, but nobody did it. Somebody got angry about that because it was everybody’s job. Everybody thought anybody could do it, but nobody realized that everybody wouldn’t do it. It ended up that everybody blamed somebody when nobody did what anybody could have done.
Lots of people never use their initiative because no one told them to. However, initiative is doing the right thing without being told. Part of the traits of a high flyer and a leader is the ability to do the right thing with minimal supervision and direction.
There is a difference between intention and initiative. We can have the intention to do good but without initiative, without action, without a clear demonstration of positive steps, intentions alone remain useless. Thinking is not action. Steps are!
