Life and Opportunities
Life will often present you with unexpected opportunities without prior notice. It won’t tell you in advance when your important moments will show up. To maximize these opportunities, live ready and like the Scout Motto would say, ‘Be Prepared’ always.
A few months prior to the completion of my national youth service year, I was taking a walk in the evening, when I came across a fellow youth corp member, by the name Lucky. I asked where he was heading, and he said he wanted to submit his resume at a bank. So I said, hold on, I’ll give you my resume so you can add it to yours and submit it. He obliged. I quickly got home, picked my printed resume, and handed it over to him.
A few days later, we were called alongside others for an aptitude test and interview the same day. That was how I got my first job. Unfortunately, Lucky didn’t make it. The moral here is that opportunities will come but we can only maximize them if we are ready. Time and chance work in favour of the prepared otherwise the opportunities they bring your way will pass you by. If I had no resume at hand or wasn’t prepared for the aptitude test, that opportunity would have slipped by.
“I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all.” Ecclesiastes 9:11
