To do what feels good or what is good?
The big day was finally here- Kemi’s wedding day. She had dreamed about it and planned for this day for months. The small family church where she was raised was filled to the brim with friends and relations.
It was a beautiful day. The weather was perfect. The hall was beautifully decorated. Guests smiled at her as she walked past them on her father’s arms. She was overwhelmed with joy. Her dad gently put her hands in Daniel’s hands, who gently took her hands as they both turned towards the altar.
It was time to exchange their vows. Suddenly a girl from the congregation walked quietly to the altar and took Daniel’s other hands. Another girl came forward and stood next to her. Soon a chain of seven girls stood by him.
Tears welled up in Kemi’s eyes, as she trembled. Is this a joke? She whispered to Daniel. I’m so sorry, Kemi, he said, looking downwards. Who are these girls, what is going on Daniel? She gasped.
They’re girls from my past, he answered sadly. They don’t mean anything to me now…but I’ve given part of my heart to each of them. I thought your heart was mine, she said. It is, it is, he pleaded. Everything that is left is yours. As tears rolled down Kemi’s cheek, she woke up.
Reflections
Various thoughts filled Kemi’s heart as she woke up.
- How many men could line up next to me on my wedding day?
- How many times have I given my heart and virtues away in short-term relationships?
- Will I have anything left to give my husband?
- What will the scenario look like if I was in Daniel’s shoes?
Key Morals
- Regrets can be avoided if relationships are based on doing what is good rather than what feels good or trendy.
- Most successful relationships are founded on living a life that is pleasing to God.
- Don’t take what is not yours or what has not yet been legally given to you.
- Don’t give away what you cannot take back, Reserve your virtues for your God-ordained man or woman.
- Mistakes and consequences can be avoided if we refuse to fall into the trap of ungodly relationships.
Stay blessed.
