Your value system determines your spending and saving pattern as it does everything in your life.
Ever read about Daniel in the Bible?
Daniel shows us that values aren’t just what we stand for, but more than that, values are what we CHOOSE to stand for even when no one else is standing.
It is not yet your value if you can’t stand alone for it.
So that being said, what are some values that can affect your savings and spending?
1. Materialism: Materialism is not just about wanting money (everybody should want to have money), materialism is when money and its gains become the topmost lens and compass by which you view and live life. It is literally when money has you. This affects not just how you spend or save but how you view life in general.
There’s a common saying when someone isn’t having a great perspective on issues, we say they’re seeing through “rose-colored glasses.” A materialistic person sees life through “terribly tainted money glasses.”
That shouldn’t be you!
2. Frugality: there’s an opposite of being materialistic, and that’s being frugal. Frugality isn’t being stingy, it’s being economical with resources.
A person who recognizes that resources come from hard work (whether theirs’ or others’), will be more careful how such resources are managed.
From the aforementioned values, we see that your guiding values (the roots) are what affect your spending and saving (the fruit).
So the festive season is here, and the big question is…
