Can you delay your gratification?
Sinach, a Nigerian Singer and Songwriter started singing for family and friends in 1989 at the age of 16 as a hobby. She was also a member of the church choir. However, it wasn’t until 2008, nineteen (19) years after that she released her first album, titled ‘chapter one’. It won the song of the year award that same year. She has since risen to limelight, written over 200 songs, and won several awards with an estimated net worth of one million dollars.
We can see from Sinach’s story that gratification may not always be immediate or instant. She started her musical journey by serving the interest of others as a hobby, yet with passion. Her career took off from there.
Life is in phases, just like the seasons of nature. We have autumn, winter, spring, and then comes summer with all the flowers in full bloom. When we understand this, then it helps us to manage the seasons of our life with prudence.
Gratification is a form of gain or satisfaction derived from the fulfillment of a desire or from something you worked for. However, in seeking to fulfill our desires or get rewards, we must balance our desires with a realistic sense of timing and patience. This means that some gratifications may be delayed based on the season of life that we are in.
Three Points to Help Your Journey through Life
- Recognise your season of life. Not every phase of life is the same, nor should we try to make it that way.
- When you have discovered your purpose, explore your talents and learn your trade.
- Don’t take shortcuts to financial gains and miss the big picture of your life.
Live intentionally.
