Overcoming the challenge of Unemployment by Acquiring Vocational/IT skills – Series One- Making of Soaps, e.g., Bar Soap, Liquid Soap
There’s a wonderful creative world of soapmaking that anyone can undertake to overcome the challenge of unemployment or even if you intended to have fun yet could be useful for home and domestic purposes.
Liquid soaps are becoming a very popular product for use at homes, restaurants, etc
Bar soaps are commonly used for washing clothes.. popular with dry cleaners laundry outlets.
The market for soap business is wide and inexhaustible. It’s a daily need that if ventured into can be lucrative. The capital for production is usually very low. One may not require intensive training to master soap making because the internet has made everything beautiful and easy to ” Do it yourself”
There are different methods to produce soap but depending on the methods used for the production, you still need to master what works best for you.
There’s the cold process, where no additional heat is required to speed up the saponification process.
There’s also the hot process which uses an external heat source to accelerate the process.
The chemicals required to produce soap are not expensive and easily accessible at major markets where chemicals for soapmaking are sold.
Like in the case of liquid soaps, the vendors have already made it easier for measuring purposes. The quantities for useable volumes are measured and sold in 20 liters,15 liters, or even 10 liters depending on your need to ensure that anyone with little knowledge of science can handle it DIY.
Although the process of making soap is by and large simple and safe yet knowledge of chemicals should not be overlooked. It is necessary to practice caution while handling chemicals like LYE used for making Bar soap.
It’s a caustic salt that comes in a crystalline form and if handled wrongly could burn skins or affect the eyes. so safety processes like wearing gloves, eye goggles, long sleeves, and a well-ventilated area are required.
In the making of liquid soaps, the chemicals required are Nitrosol, caustic soda, sodium sulfate, etc
Making Bar Soap Tips;
What’s needed:
✓coconut oil or palm oil, etc
If you need a bar soap with good lather then palm oil is preferred because of its moisturizing properties while coconut oil has a fatty profile and can be drying.
✓ LYE is called sodium hydroxide, use a weight scale and measure it to the required scale.
✓Distilled water to mix &
Keep a basin of water laced with vinegar to avoid splashes
✓ Fragrance oil
