To effectively communicate, we must realize that we are all different in the way we perceive the world and use this understanding as a guide to our communication with others.
By definition, communication is the transfer of information from one place to another. In relationships, communication allows you to explain to someone else what you are experiencing and what your needs are. The act of communicating not only helps to meet our needs, but it also helps us to be connected and understood in our relationship.
Communication is more than just sending and receiving information, it also requires understanding, sacrifice, compromise, listening, and empathy to make meaning out of what your partner is saying. Every problem that persists in a relationship, is because there was never a common ground built for effective communication or one partner is not listening enough to meet the needs of his or her partner.
It is said that communication is the bedrock of a successful relationship. Communication is one thing and listening and understanding are what make us have fruitful communication.
When partners communicate and try to understand each other, without allowing emotions to overrule their sense of reasoning, they get positive outcomes from their communication.
