Living above conflict and contention in marriage.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
They made a beautiful couple together. Marriage together was so much fun, just as she had dreamed of. Then the baby came. He started complaining that she was spending too much time with the baby and neglecting him. She couldn’t understand his complaints. The baby needed her time.
Marriage is a beautiful gift created by God for man. At creation, God said, it is not good for man to be alone. It is a wonderful experience having the right person by your side, as you journey through life.
Due to our human nature, life demands, and differences in background and upbringing, conflicts can and do occur in marriage.
Let’s look at common causes of conflict in marriage and how to resolve them;
Finance……People see money differently. Some love to save while others love to spend. The difference in approach towards money can generate conflict in the home. Couples should work on their financial plan together. A budget can help to determine how much should be spent and how much should be saved etc.
Parenting Style….. Parenting styles and beliefs differ. Issues such as discipline and child care can generate conflict. It is best for the couple to form a unified front when handling differences in parenting. Never disagree in front of the children.
Trust and Intimacy….. Infidelity breaks trust. Intimacy creates a bond. When trust is broken, conflict will occur. When the bond has been broken, the couple should talk about it and resolve it. Avoid third party interference in resolving conflicts.
Home Upkeep…..Marriage has its demands. These demands cannot be swept under the love umbrella. The home must be kept clean. Couples should work as a team, where there is no extra hand to assist. Getting a domestic staff can go a long way if the couple can afford it.
Time….Routine and career demands can rob a couple of adequate time together. This can cause conflict, with the other person feeling ignored and neglected. Time together must be intentionally planned. Plan a date together. Keep the spark in your union intact. Your spouse is worth it.
