Are you casting your pearls before swine?
She was a Godly lady in her mid-forties. She entered into a relationship with a young man who was in his late thirties. They became friends, which later progressed into courtship. She introduced him to her family. They didn’t approve of him. He had a notorious lifestyle but she was desperate to get married. She went ahead with the relationship and asked him to move in with her. Her values were heavily compromised. She gave him her body, her money, and her resources, and yet all of this was not enough. She lost her peace, respect, and honor in this relationship. He lived a highly immoral life yet she turned a blind eye to his excesses. She kept making excuses for him. It dragged on for years until he eventually left her. After he left her, she met her present spouse. They got married within a few months.
There are lots of lessons to take away from this true-life story
– Any relationship that forces you to compromise your faith or your belief in God is not the right relationship for you.
Loss of self-value starts from the moment we cast our pearls before swine or enter into a wrong relationship. We’ve seen cases where seemingly good people enter into terrible relationships and we wonder how did it happen. If you give the devil an inch, he will take a mile.
– Don’t make excuses.
If it is not right, then it is wrong. Most people who claim to be in love don’t want to listen to advice from anyone until it is too late. If your biological or spiritual parents are pointing out an issue to you while in courtship, then take a moment to listen and think about the issue.
– Don’t stay in a relationship where you are not valued.
If you lay yourself down as a door-mat, you will be treated as such. God created us with value inside all of us. The values we honor and respect will in turn preserve us. The decisions we make and the actions we take have an effect on the honor we receive in life. If you place value on yourself, you will receive value from others.
– Finally, never compromise your values in a bid to get something.
You may end up losing everything. Jesus called our bodies His temple. If we are His temple, then let’s treat our temple as holy ground.
– Do not be anxious or desperate over any situation. Trust God in that situation. He will come through with answers for you.
‘Do not give what is holy to the dogs; nor cast your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you in pieces. Matthew 7:6a’
I see you winning.
