Humility in Marriage
A friend of mine shared her marital experience as a newly wedded bride. Her husband loved her so much. So, each time they had an argument, she would pack her things and say she was leaving. Her husband would beg her and they would make up.
Then one day, they had an argument. She got angry and packed her things and dragged her box to the living room. She was expecting her husband to beg her as usual. But he kept reading his newspaper. He didn’t even move from his seat. After some minutes, she borrowed some sense and quietly dragged her box back to their bedroom. That was the end of her tantrums. This year, her marriage clocked twenty-two years and they are happy together.
A lot of people have lost out on a good marriage because they could not humble themselves. It takes humility to say sorry. It takes humility to make a move to settle a misunderstanding. Humility is a great virtue and it pays.
It is said that pride goes before a fall. It was pride that brought down Vashti from her throne as queen. Rather than join her husband in the kingdom celebrations, she hosted her own feast at that same time. When the King sent for her, she refused to show up. She was the architect of her own downfall. She opened the door for her enemies to pull her down. She was replaced by Queen Esther. Esther knew the secret. She didn’t struggle to host her own feast. Instead, the King hosted a banquet in her honor. All she needed to do was show up.
Esther understood the secret of submission in marriage. It takes humility to submit to anyone. God created the man as the head of the home. The woman, who is a helper to the man should submit to his leadership. Together, they will build a Godly home and raise Godly children.
Therefore, as a woman, choose your leader wisely. Don’t marry a man that you don’t respect and cannot submit to his authority and leadership. Every ship has one captain. If there are two captains giving counter instructions, then the ship would crash.
1 Peter 5:5-6 KJV
[5] … for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble. [6] Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: …
When we pay the price of humility, we enjoy the benefits of grace and favour.
We win by Grace.
